Law School Admission Test, LSAT

Law School Admission Test, LSAT is a standardized test needed for getting admission to all American Bar Association (ABA) approved law schools, most law schools in Canada and some non ABA Approved law schools. The reading and verbal reasoning skills of the applicants are measured through this test. These skills are essential to be successful in the law schools. LSAT is designed to assess the skills of reading and comprehension of complex tests with great accuracy, ability to think critically, organization and management of the information and drawing the inferences from it and evaluation and analysis of reasoning and arguments of others.

Test format

It is skill-based, multiple choice 101-questtion test administered by Law School Admission Council (LSAC). The LSAT test is conducted for 4 hours and 25 minutes. The test is conducted 4 times every year at several locations throughout the world.

Law School Admission Test, LSAT consists of five multiple-choice sections of 35 minutes and one 35-minute essay. Out of five multiple-choice sections, four contribute to the score of test taker. LSAT includes the sections like logical reasoning section, analytical reasoning section, reading comprehension section and experimental writing section. The logical reasoning section evaluates the candidate’s ability to understand, analyze, criticize and complete a variety of arguments.

Analytical reasoning section evaluates the candidate’s ability to understand a lot of relationships and to draw logical conclusions about that structure. The reading comprehension section measures one’s ability to understand complex materials.

Score of LSAT

The final score of Law School Admission Test, LSAT is based on the number of correctly answered questions. The score is not deducted for the incorrect answers. The scores of LSAT are converted into scale that ranges from 120-180 with average score of 150. It is done through statistical equating. Minor differences in difficulty between the test forms are adjusted by this method. The applicants will receive the percentile ranking along with LSAT score.

LSAT Preparation:

Before taking the test, it is very important to make LSAT preparation. The Law School Admission Council makes available various study materials in order to help the students prepare for LSAT. The purpose of these materials is to make the candidates familiar with the test pattern and other important issues.
