Higher Education in Goa
Goa is one of the smallest states in India that boasts of plenty of educational facilities for its student community. There are a good number of state-run as well as private colleges in Goa, which are the major centers of higher education in the state. As per the 2001 census, the literacy rate of Goa was 82% with male literacy rate being 89% and female being 76%. This indicates that the state government has done much to develop the education system in Goa. Following 10 years of schooling, the students in the state generally join a Junior College leading to a professional degree.

College in Goa offers courses in popular streams like Arts, Science, Commerce and Law. There are also a number of colleges that offer professional degree and diploma courses in disciplines such as pharmacy, architecture and dentistry along with other regular programs. Goa Colleges are also well-known in India for offering professional courses in fisheries, marine engineering as well as hotel management. There are also a number of engineering colleges in Goa that offer B.E or B.Tech in Mechanical, Electronics & Telecommunication and Computer Engineering. Other courses are offered in disciplines like medicine, law, nursing, ayurveda, homeopathy and many more.

All colleges in Goa are affiliated to the Goa University, which is the only university in the state. The Goa University is located in Taleigao.
Top Colleges in Goa
Goa is home to numerous top colleges, some of which are state-run while others are under the administration of private organizations. There are four engineering colleges in the state including The Goa Engineering College which is run by the state. The other engineering colleges in Goa include Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna and Shree Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology, Shiroda. There is one state run medical college in the state by the name Goa Medical College. Law colleges in Goa include V.M. Salgaocar College of Law and Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law. Both these law colleges in Goa are BCI approved.
