Personal Interviews |
Most admissions procedures at various professional institutes such as B-Schools, engineering colleges and law colleges involve personal interviews. Generally these interviews are the final part of the selection process whereby the candidate has to sit for a one to one dialogue with the dean or the concerned admission authority of the institute. It is the performance at the personal interviews that decides whether the candidates are eligible for admissions in a particular educational institute or not.
Guidelines for Personal Interviews
The most important thing that candidates must keep in mind before facing the interviewer is to keep a positive attitude. Getting nervous or trying to give rehearsed answers are things that an interviewer will notice immediately. Therefore being spontaneous and friendly helps to make the interview process work in favor of the candidate.
Appearance is another very vital factor that immediately creates an impression about the candidate to be interviewed. Therefore dress smartly without going over the top and always appear neat and clean. A good appearance speaks volumes about the personality of a person and helps to create the right impression.
If the personal interview is for a job offer, then candidates should carry the relevant documents such a copies of resume, experience letter and any other important papers or credentials that may be essential at the time of the interview.
Purpose of Personal Interviews
Whether it is for a job or for admissions to a professional degree college or university, the primary purpose of personal interviews is to gauge the suitability of the person for the job or the degree course. Generally the interviewer notices how well the candidate can handle pressure or how positive he or she is.
Sometimes even though a candidate may have all the requisite qualifications for getting admissions to a college or for getting a job, he/ she may fail at the personal interview for reasons such as bad attitude, lack of confidence and other personal shortcomings.
