Introduction
The Indira Gandhi National Open University, or IGNOU, as it is widely known was set up by an by an act of Parliament in 1985. The headquarter of IGNOU is in New Delhi. With the growing popularity of the distance learning courses, IGNOU has also gained prominence.
Today, it has 58 regional centres, 7 sub-regional centres and 11 schools of Studies. IGNOU has 1400 study centres in India and 41 abroad. Apart from catering to the higher educational needs of the 1.5 million students in India and 35 countries abroad, IGNOU is also entrusted with the task of promoting and maintaining the standards of distance education in India.
IGNOU offers various postgraduate, undergraduate, certificate and diploma courses through the distance education mode. For admission to some of these courses it also conducts entrance tests. The IGNOU Entrance test are held for admission to courses like B.Ed., B.Sc. (NS), MP etc.
