Education System in Dehradun
Dehradun, the capital city of the state of Uttarakhand is flanked by the majestic Himalayan mountain range in the north and the picturesque Shivaliks in the south. Apart from the quality educational institutes, the scenic location and pleasant weather have made Dehradun Education quite attractive.
The city boasts of quite a good number of schools, which are either affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) or National Open Schools. There are exclusive schools for girls and boys as well as co-educational schools among which some are residential.
Admissions to these schools commence normally in the month of June and last till the end of July and most of the schools generally admit student from LKG to Class 10. To complement the schools there are also some good colleges in Dehradun starting from nursing colleges to colleges which provide distance education through its Distance Education Centers.
There are also a few good Engineering Colleges offering degrees such as B. E. B. Tech, B.Arch, B.Plan,M.E. M.Tech, M. Arch and M. Plan. The Business Schools in Dehradun offer courses in MBA, MHRM, MMM, M.Com, B.B.A and B.Com etc.

The Forest Research Institute (established in 1906) is another prestigious institute in Dehradun, which apart from being a grand academic center is a premier tourist attraction because of its artistic building. Deemed University because of its pioneering effort in the field of education. DAV College of Law is one of the oldest institutes in the city established in the year 1948. The Institute of Management & Studies is another world-class institute in the city, the oldest and the largest management institute of the State. Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical Health and Sciences is a medical college, which is approved by the Government and affiliated to the HNB Garhwal University.
